ɫ��APP����

In March, student filmmakers from ɫ��APP���� joined peers from other international schools for the annual ɫ��APP���� Student Film Festival (S2F2), a celebration of student storytelling, creative thinking, and collaboration. With a long tradition of participation, SAS fielded 10 teams in this year’s event, competing in two major categories: the general film competition and the high-pressure 4x4x4 Challenge.

In the 4x4x4 Challenge, where students are given four days to plan, four hours to shoot, and four hours to edit, two SAS teams took home first-place honors. Fin. by SAS’s Team China topped the Senior Category with its creative foreshadowing.

Junior Brad C., Director of Photography for Fin., reflected on one of their most inventive moments: "To create the illusion of fish scales growing on our actor's skin, we used an actual fishing net, glitter, and eyeshadow. It was super DIY but ended up looking amazing on camera—eerie and beautiful at the same time."

The action-packed Reset Roulette by SAS's Essentials won the Junior Category in the 4x4x4 challenge. Freshman Nathan L. from the team shared how they pivoted during filming to give themselves an advantage: “Our original planned outline followed the story of an action film. However, while filming, we agreed to take a more creative approach, hoping that a comedy-themed film would set our movie apart from other groups.”

Going into the challenge, SAS students felt confident and well-prepared to succeed in such a fast-paced event. Brad C. shared, "taking the IB Film course at SAS has been a big part of why I felt ready to work on challenges like this. The environment we have in class where we’re supported but also challenged made all the difference during production."
